DESKTOP CABLE ORGANIZER (2018)
A common inconvenience many people encounter in today’s tech-driven world is having a multitude of unorganized cables on their desk that create clutter and often slide off the desk when disconnected or not in use. The purpose of this project was to create a small, inexpensive, user-friendly product that would easily attach to any desk to allow for the organization of these cables, separating them and keeping them secured in place. This was successfully accomplished through our system of four spring-loaded cylindrical pins with openings to fit nearly any commonly-used charging cables. The springs allow for the pins to slide smoothly within their respective slots to expose the openings for the cables, and holes drilled into the base keep the springs in place and provide maximum compression.
CROSSTEK MEMBRANE TECHNOLOGY: ECOPAK DRY (2020)
EcoPak Dry is a low-cost, sustainable packaging solution developed in 2020 for CrossTek Membrane Technology.
CNC LASER ENGRAVER (2019)
A fully-manual alternative to a traditional CNC laser engraver. It uses a 2.5-axis carriage system to provide a wide range of motion, with a wood-crafted controller allows the user to have complete command over the location of the integrated 2.5-watt laser, as well as the option to turn it on or off at will.
We developed a proprietary pulley system to move the bottom carriage in one axis, where the carriage is pulled by two belts on either end no matter which direction it is sliding in. This system offers smooth and precise movement. The top carriage holding the laser uses a rack and pinion to allow for controlled guidance of the laser and immediate feedback between the user control and the laser movement.
DISASTER CRANK GENERATOR (2018)
The purpose of this endeavor was to create a product that could easily aid in disaster relief. Hurricane Maria had just left the entirety of Puerto Rico without electricity, and we wanted to make something that could be used in these dire types of situations, should they arise. We decided on a low-cost, portable, fully human-powered electrical generator, operated by a crank. Although not a replacement for a functioning electrical grid, it is enough to light a 16-watt, 2000 lumen LED bulb for six hours on a full battery. It can also charge just about any electronic device through its 12V (cigarette lighter) port, which is connected to a 12V lead acid battery. We also attached an Arduino wired to a breadboard to the system and wrote a program that tracked the voltage level in the battery in order to let the user know when the voltage gets below a certain level by lighting up the LCD screen and having it say "LOW BATTERY", a sign to start cranking again.
HOT WIRE TOOL (2018)
The purpose of this project was to create a handheld hot wire tool that could be used in a variety of applications. As a group, we discussed numerous different ideas as to what form this tool could take. We chose this design because it made the most sense ergonomically for what we were trying to use the tool for, and it allowed for interchangeable nichrome wiring via built-in alligator clips.
GASKET (2018)
This 1/16"-thick PVC gasket was created for use on an aluminum block with two pins and four screw holes.
It was designed in Creo Parametric and converted into G-CODE in order to be used in GibbsCAM for machining.
